*Gasp* April 9th

It's been an entire month since my last entry. I so totally blew it. LOL. I can't believe how crazy busy it's been in this household, and quite honestly I don't know why.

It's been a daily struggle with homework and our daughter who is 8 years old. She has a "contract of smiles" that gets sent home with her on a daily basis. It goes something like this:

Well, for the last several weeks all she's been bringing home were either 'straight faces' or 'frowns'. We've tried every reward and punishment we could think of. Quite frankly we were at the end of our ropes. Grounding her didn't work, taking things away from her didn't work, giving her rewards for 'smiles' didn't work. It was like she just didn't care one way or the other. We finally got an appointment for her with her new pediatrician. She's been having these horrible stomach pains and nausea. He put her on Prevacid. Now, when she was born she had gastric reflux very badly. She was actually hospitalized for it when she was only 3 weeks old. So, my immediate thought was that she was having symptoms again. Dr. P said he thinks it may be related to her problems at school. What a horrible thing for your child to be physically sick because of problems at school.

Okay, so let me get back on track. The contract of smiles seemed to work for a while; but then like every other reward system we've tried it stopped working. This week, however, was totally different. She started on some medication for ADD (attention deficit disorder). Her new doctor started her on a very low dose. She has only had one side effect so far--dizziness. The dizziness only comes and goes in the afternoon for about 15-20 minutes, after that, she's totally fine.

Her contract of smiles today was all "SMILES"!!!! YAY Elizabeth!!! She was so proud of herself. I know we both were so excited and happy, and yes, Proud of her!! I knew all along she could focus and pay attention more. I'm just thankful that right now it seems as if the meds will work!

Okay, enough of that for now. LOL I know I'll have more to say about it later. I wanted to post some layouts tonight and add a freebie or two but I'm dead tired so I'm gonna run to bed and I'll post more tomorrow!!

How sad that school made her feel so sick. When I was in 8th grade (older than her, of course) I threw up every day before school because my stomach was so upset about going. I'm glad you got some help and it sounds like things are looking up!
